Adventurous Things to Do in Skopje (Beyond the Old Bazaar)
Visiting Skopje for a weekend? Add some adrenaline: off-road ATV riding, hiking Vodno, kayaking Matka Canyon and a night ride over the city lights.
The Old Bazaar, the Stone Bridge and the fortress are worth your time. But Skopje is surrounded by mountains — and that’s where the best stories happen.
1. Ride an ATV into the hills
Our loop goes from Skopje to Bashinec and Ramno and back, with a lamb lunch on the way. Ride yourself (19€/hour, 99€/day) or join a guided ATV tour.
2. Hike or ride up Vodno
Mount Vodno rises right above the city, topped by the Millennium Cross. Walk up, or take the cable car and walk down.
3. Kayak in Matka Canyon
About half an hour from the centre, Matka is a canyon with a lake, monasteries and caves. Rent a kayak or take a boat.
4. Watch the city lights from above
